A British radiographer speaks out against airport x-ray scanners

Anthony Hall is a Senior Reporting Radiographer, holding a Bsc (hons) in Diagnostic Radiography. He is responsible both for the imaging of patients and producing medical reports.
He is also one of the radiation protection supervisors at the hospital where he works - ensuring the equipment is working within safe limits.
On 12th April the Manchester Evening News published an an article which quotes Mr. Hall as follows:
“Every exposure to ionising radiation is a lottery. No expert would ever say that it is safe – they will say that it falls within a safe dose or a limit, but there is no such thing as a safe x-ray."
“No matter how small the dose, it carries a risk and passengers should be given an alternative. I believe it to be outrageous that there is no alternative and it really concerns me."
“There should be an opt-out option provided for anyone who wishes not to receive this additional, man-made, dose.”
Mr Hall joins us today for the entire hour to discuss these issues and much more.
A very important broadcast!

There is an alternative to the scanner, you can opt to have yourself, your wife and kids to be sexually assaulted, groped by some fairly thuggish .
Luckily there’s bi-partisan legislation about to be voted on in the US.Hopefully Britain will follow.
99% of Congress is against the scanners, and there is talk of blocking supply for these scanners.
The lobbyists are the biggest threat to having these dangerous and de-humanising scanners banned for good.
I quote from the Washington Post, Friday, December 24, 2010
Faced with that threat, the industry made a strong lobbying push over the past two years to help derail any proposed limits, including legislation aimed at restricting or banning the use of full-body scanners by the TSA.
Mind you that was 6 months ago and the opposition has risen to a crescendo with 99% of Congress against keeping them, after all the Congressmen and their families travel a lot, they’re forced to comply with this ridiculous measure on a weekly basis.
We can only hope that sanity prevails.
A lot of this hoo haa could have been avoided if people would only SAY NO! In the US there’s already legislation preventing the gropers from their thuggish behaviour but as usual the population is unaware of it, we have the same problem here, everyone is asleep and just follows. Unbelievable!
All it would take is for EVERYONE to refuse the scanners and the pat downs and then simply refuse to fly if necessary on just one day predetermined of course.
I guarantee the scanners would be taken down overnight.
Ha ha, as if that would happen with such a conditioned society.

I have read the article and heard the talk. I was really shocked to see those reports. Being a business man I travel around the globe almost every month, I often take my family vacations too abroad. I have gone through x-ray scanners many times. Now after reading the articled and hearing the words of the British radiographer, I now fear that whether the x-rays have caused any damage to my body. I think the time has come to question the use of x-ray scanners at airports as it will affect regular passengers like me. From the words of Mr. Hall, it x-ray scanning definitely carries a risk.
