Rupert and James Murdoch testifying at the Parliamentary Inquiry

Tonight I am joined by Josh Jackson as we explore the wider implications of the News Corp phone hacking scandal. In particular, we look at the future of news and whether this crisis signals the demise of traditional mass media.

We also look at the way in which News Corp's position on the carbon tax and climate change may have made the organisation an enemy of the dominant globalist forces pushing for a price on carbon.

Good questions. Good guest! Rock on, Hereward. The truth will set you free... from your opinions.

After listening till the end, I should add that I see a difference between a "truth movement" and a movement grounded in truth. The first sets itself in opposition to a tower of lies whereas the second seeks truth for itself. Different dynamics and something to think about. Philosophically speaking, 99 per cent of people are idealistic - ie they cut out of reality what does not fit into their preconceived idea (which can and has led to bloody massacres). The worm is in the ideological fruit. But in fact, most people are not interested in Truth, as it is not something they can possess exclusively. http://beingandquirkiness.blogspot.com/2009/01/descartes-or-idealism.html

Dear Hereward and Josh,
Love your stuff. Long time listener. I am really sick of the bullshit being fed to us by those who have a vested interest in profit over truth and justice. I don't blame them nor am I really angry. I guess more frustrated at the shortsightedness to pursue profit at any cost. Maybe we should take the incentive out of the system to do the wrong thing, because I feel it is not so much the people but the environment the system sets for people to do whats right for them instead of whats right. In any case I was inspired for the first time to write to my local federal member I also sent him that well made koozzoo video. As well as others.
Here is a copy of the email i sent to craig thomson federal member for robertson. "Dear Mr. Thomson,
I am a 55 year old grandfather. I have been a labor voter all my life because I believe in justice and a fair go for all no matter who you are. That’s what I believed the labor party was about. That is not what I am witnessing or experienced in the last few decades. I can’t see the difference between you or the coalition. Your head long push to privatise all aspects of our essential infrastructure now leaving us to the unaccountable private corporations whim were the prices have gone up and the service gone down. Leaving us “the government” not able to make a profit on these businesses and then offsetting it in tax as they were originally intended.
Selling all assets in the name of fixing our economy in the short term but now leaving you open to ever increasing leasing costs. Even selling both the GIO and The Commonwealth Bank were you could have set the standard for service and price and thereby forced the other banks and insurance companies to offer the same by way of competition not legislation. A truer free Ideal all that’s happened now is that our costs are going up but so are their profits with no end or shame from these corporations.
We are so regulated these days you can’t sneeze without fear of being fined.
I have always, until recently, been interested in politics because I naively believed that good men with good hearts would ensure the freedom and justice for all Australians would remain at the fore front. Gough Whitlam used to be my hero I was 19 when Gough was sacked and was so angry that an elected official could still be sacked by the Queen.
I have never ever written to a politician before and I sent you that email before. Firstly I would like to apologise to you personally as I do not know you and therefore cannot call you a liar. My comment was for those who I know have lied by the words they use and the actions they do, you don’t have to be a genius to see that. My reason for sending you that last email was to show you that us, the silent majority are getting sick of this bullshit. I am sure you are a decent human being and got into politics for the right reasons after all I am sure you want to do the right thing for your family and their future.
Please Mr Thomson you know that science is not about consensus it’s about truth, after all Christopher Columbus was only one who believed the earth was round, Galileo only one who believed the earth revolved around the sun. You owe it to us all, yourself included, to allow all of us to know both sides of the science not just one it feels more like a religion than science you either believe or you don’t. I thought science was about an open mind and keep searching. If there is anything we can be sure about is that science sometimes gets it wrong and we always pay the price. I have seen many turn around in my short life time.
I don’t know that you will read this or if you can do anything. Maybe I am just wasting my time but I feel I have to do something this is just too much I don’t know how much more you expect us to take. It’s like all community is gone, more of our kids both HAVE to go to work so they can pay the high cost of life ( I can’t believe how much it costs to live all directly attributed to government policy.). I know you can send me all these wonderful achievements and statistics on what government has done to help, but we live in the real world and we are the ones who suffer your blunders and we all know this is getting worse little by little day by day.
None of us really believe that a carbon tax will fix anything it will be more of the same just more burdening, shackling cost on an already over burdened population.
If you were fair dinkum you firstly would not call the most essential element to life a pollutant if you really believe carbon is a pollutant you need to replace your science advisor.
Secondly if you took some of the money from the petrol and electricity gas etc levies and sincerely invested in alternative power that would directly save the environment from true pollution like heavy metals carbon monoxide etc.
I know what about the economy? I don’t have the answer I am just one person, but what I do know that if this tax goes ahead we will all regret it, if not in the short term definitely in the long. These big polluters will find the way to make profit out of this. If we approach this from the aspect of what is the right thing to do, common sense will show that another tax is out of the question. Please tell the prime minister to stop the spin, it’s embarrassing for her, I’d hate this to be her “TAMPA”.

Kind Regards,

Here is the email I circulated with that koozoo video please feel free to circulate if you think its worth it.Hi Everyone,
Please circulate this. http://vidcall.com/index.php/videos/show/2090/#chooseVidcallMailWin-coming-soon It’.s about time we all realise what lies our governments, corporations and mass media are spinning us. History has time and time again shown us that these entities do not have mankind’s best interests in their hearts, its more now than ever short sighted profits and forget the long term consequences for our health and well being, our freedom, our economy, our grandchildren’s and our planet’s future. We have lost so much in such a short time. As an example, when I first left school in the 70’s there were choices of careers or jobs available mostly sorted 6 months before school finished for all my class mates. However, unbeknown to us our Prime Minister, a Labor Politician supposed champion of the working class, signed a treaty with The UN giving away our right to protect our industry from cheap imports no matter how derived. All in the name of trying to shift manufacturing to third world countries so their standard of living will grow. An admiral quest, however the unforseen or otherwise consequence of this action is exactly what we have today.
1) Now more than ever less meaningful full time work available for our children.
2) Cheaper consumerables but also in quality.
3) More people employed in third world countries but at almost slave rates and conditions we wouldn’t have put up with 70 years ago let alone 2011.
4) Our food industry is being decimated through cheap food imports that do not have the same stringent standards that we have. Which are probably having negative health impacts on us both immediate and long term.
5) The “ green light” for these third world countries to grow at any cost to their population or environment.
6) The wealth transfer has gone out of Australian hands and not to the third world countries but the corporations, who to this day still treat their workforce with disdain.

Now we have no say because our elected official signed our rights away, Some Democracy more like a dictatorship.

I love this country and still believe we live in the” lucky country “, but think about it, slowly but surely the noose is getting tighter, electricity is going up, private medical insurance, green slips, water rates, council rates, school fees food, mortgage, beer, petrol, fines, everything. We seem to be paying more for less, working harder afraid to make waves in case we lose our jobs because we can’t last long on our savings. Just ask yourself can you really trust any government with a new tax especially one that we have no control over. When is it going to be time for our politicians to stop abusing us and stop treating us like cash cows? The more they get the more they waste and the more powerful they become weaselling into every aspect of our lives. There are so many ridiculous rules around for instance you can’t do a Mexican wave at the football or you’re not allowed to buy raw milk for consumption, you must carry ID while in public, plain packaging for cigarettes, gambling license etc.

Maybe we can take a stand here, draw a line in the sand and say no further, this is it you will not abuse us any longer we are not stupid we can see what you are doing. We will no longer believe your spin for as sure as the day is long so are you lies. Nothing that these people say is true they try to scare us so that we will react and their solution always hurts us, but makes them and their buddies rich.

Let’s do something please I’m hoping this gets to someone who will have a peaceful solution to making our politicians listen to us for once and not their financiers. They don’t listen to our protests , otherwise we wouldn’t have gone to Iraq, they ignore our correspondence. The only time they listen to us is at election time but they still blatantly lie to us. So come on get angry lets think of a way for them to listen to us and take notice.

In Hope,
Alex

Hi everyone,
I just couldn't let it rest I had to contact our Prime Minister to. Here is a copy of what I said. I hope this starts something, maybe I'm pissing in the wind, but hell I gotta try. Most of you know how complacent I am and most things is just water off a ducks back, but come on, this is effectively a tax on us breathing and you know once they bring in a tax it's in forever. Most of you probably don't realise that income tax was brought in temporarily for the 1st world war. Gee a long temporary measure. I suppose the main question is can we trust our government to do the right thing when so many times they have let us down. The worst that happens to them is they get the sack with a golden diamond studded hand shake, what do we get the consequences. Maybe we can have some kind of civil disobedience to get their attention. We just can't lie down and let them rape us anymore. There is more of us then them and we allow them to do this to us. Please always remember this has always got to be peaceful we will already be labelled as extremists because we are not towing the government line, but there is never a reason for this to get violent.
In Hope,
Alex

Title: mr
First name: Alex

Country: Australia
Subject: The Carbon Tax
Comment:
Dear Miss Gilliard,
I have only written to one other politician before you, that was to Mr Thomson the member for Robertson. That was yesterday in regards to the same subject. My main concern is that you are pushing ahead with yet another cost burden on your fellow country men. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you truly believe that anthropological climate change is real. I am not a scientist just an ordinary citizen who has looked at both sides of the science and come to conclusion that climate change is only minutely caused through our activities. Now please don't get me wrong I am all for us reducing pollution and providing cleaner air, water and food for us ALL. I have heard all your rhetoric on how the carbon tax will change this through the free market and what you say has some logic to it, however I have been around long enough to see how what seemed logical at the time leads to great pain later. That's OK what is IS. We are a resilient people and try to live our lives as peacefully and free as we can in spite of all the regulations and costs that are imposed on us by you. We all need to take a deep breath and not be scared. Please Miss Gilliard let us all see both sides of the science for some reason our main stream media only report the one side even our most revered ABC seems to disregard the other side of the story. There are 32,000 scientists who disregard the science you are basing this new tax on, 9,000 of those scientists have PHD's.
Surely we have some say, I am not so worried for myself I am a survivor and will survive no matter what you through at me and I am sure that most of us are like that, like I said we are a resilient bunch. I am worried about the future of our children and grandchildren, its this carbon tax someone else will have control over our money and can change the rules at any time with out being accountable to us over questionable science, and still no hard evidence that this tax will do anything except make a whole bunch of rich guys even richer money they couldn't use in 100 lifetimes but the most vulnerable always pay the highest price and the rest of us just have to sweat harder and lose more time from our loved ones to make ends meet.

I love Australia and the people in her, I still believe we are "the lucky country" we seem to have respect for each other with irreverence if you know what I mean, but the patience with each other seems to be wearing a bit thin these days the gap between the rich and poor is getting much wider people aren't sure what to expect next.
I know you have compensation for the most vulnerable but we all know that it is for the short time and with a STARTING PRICE of $23.00/ Ton with no ceiling quite frankly scares the shit out of me.

Miss Gilliard please don't disregard the silent majority, maybe you need to get away from all those fake staged TV shots of meeting "REAL" people on the street or wherever and lose the cameras have a beer with some real battlers and ask them how they feel about being railroaded into another UN Agenda that will give our sovereignty away again.
I realize that I am only one voice and that you will undoubtedly disregard me, as I have no academic qualifications, but I was blessed with common sense and luckily I was taught at school in the 60's and early 70's where we were always given both sides of an issue and allowed to critically think it through.
That seems to be taken away from us now we pick a side and then we dogmatically follow it.
Please don't set this in stone it really. We all need to see both sides of the science.
Our governments have made so many blunders in the past that we are all paying for now you always seem to listen to the people with the money, maybe they have us by the short and curlies, but surely we can say no to this one we will back you 100%. Please be a friend to us all don't put another shackle on your fellow Ausies give us a fair go.
Best Wishes
